Question of the Week #7: What is our vision?
Last year, on September 22, 2024, we announced our vision as Centre Church. We have this mission: to love God, love people, and serve the city in Jesus’ name.
We also have this vision:
(clip from September 22, 2024)
“We believe that God is calling us to see 100 salvations by the end of 2030. I want to be clear — we are not talking about being a church of 100. That’s nice, but we don’t want to be a church of 100. We want to see 100 salvations — 100 people who don’t know Jesus coming into a saving relationship with Jesus.
We’re not just saying, ‘I hope we have roughly 100 people on a Sunday morning.’ Forget that! We could be this size by the end of 2030, and if we have seen 100 salvations and they’ve gone into other churches — praise God! That is our mission. We’re not trying to grow our kingdom; we’re trying to grow God’s Kingdom.”
That was a huge vision for us. That was a huge step of faith for us — and it still is.
But, by God’s grace, we are four months in from officially launching as Centre Church, 10 months out from proclaiming that vision… and I’m so excited to share with you that we have seen 68 people respond to the good news of Jesus.
68 people — 68 names — are on this prayer wall.
68 people who have turned from running away from God to turning to God, who have experienced the embrace of their Heavenly Father, who have recognised the wonder of what Jesus has done in their life. That is a wonderful thing.
It would be really easy for us to take the credit for it. Honestly, we could be like, “Yeah, look at us! How great is it that we’ve seen 68 people saved?” But the truth is, of all the books on evangelism our congregation has read, of all the techniques and the “Do this and you will succeed” — none of that really worked. I’ll tell you what worked: we prayed.
We have prayed consistently — on Wednesday mornings, on Sunday evenings, before church for 30 minutes. We have prayed persistently that God will bring people into His Kingdom. That’s it. No fancy techniques. No fancy strategies. And by God’s grace, He has used us for His Kingdom purposes.
I want to celebrate that, and I hope you will celebrate that too. But most importantly, I hope you will continue to pray. 68 people out of 100 in four months is staggering. People told us we were probably being a bit naïve aiming for that number — but we felt God was in it. We still have a long way to go. 32 people is still a lot to see saved in the next few years, especially for a church our size. So I want to encourage you: let’s keep praying. Let’s not grow complacent.
On this prayer wall, at the bottom down here, are initials of people we are praying for. Keep praying for those initials. Add names to that wall. Let’s keep praying for people to come to know Jesus for the first time.
We are privileged to be a part of this incredible journey that God is taking us on. But we still have a long way to go.
So — let’s keep praying!
