Question of the Week #6: What is Commission?
Now, I get that. What is this commission thing that we keep talking about that’s different from the great commission? It’s really a fair question, and I think the best way that we can possibly answer it is to say this:
Commission is a global family of churches working together to see lives transformed by Jesus. It’s not a traditional denomination in terms of structure and outworking. It looks a bit different. It’s a network of churches that are rooted in Scripture, that are empowered by the Holy Spirit, and are united in mission.
It’s part of a larger group of churches, a larger movement called New Frontiers, which began in the UK in the 1970s led by a man called Terry Virgo. New Frontiers and Commission share a BUNCH of core beliefs with most evangelical Christians, but it would be distinct as a group of churches in a few ways. Firstly they are Word and Spirit based. They’re grace-centered, complementarian, and local church focused. If you don’t know what they mean, feel free to send me a quick message at info@wearecentrechurch.ca.
Now, the REASON we’re a part of Commission is because we don’t want to pursue the Great Commission alone. We get to have support from a global family. We get to have accountability. We get to have resources for training and mission. Actually, we have been SO BLESSED by financial support, mentoring and guidance from the Commission family of churches, even if you don’t know it.
So that’s it – Commission is a global family of churches on mission together. You can find out more about them by heading to www.commission.global
