Question of the Week #4: What is our approach to small groups?
That’s a really good question. It’s maybe a little bit different to other churches, but not too drastically different. We usually gather together on Wednesday nights, and we meet in people’s homes. The intention is that we study the Bible together, but we don’t just study the Bible; it’s not just a Bible study. If you’re coming expecting only a bible study, you’ll be disappointed.
We use Acts two as our model, where they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship and to the breaking of bread, and they shared with one another as any who had need. We wanted our small groups to reflect something of the Acts 2 church, where we come together and devote ourselves to fellowship to building meaningful relationships with one another.
And here’s why we believe that our Bible studies become so much more powerful when we’re doing it in deep relationships. it’s not suddenly this intellectual, trying to prove yourself type thing, but instead, it’s us gathering together, sharing where we’re at and being honest about where we’re at and going deeper together in the Bible and letting the Bible penetrate our hearts and speak powerfully to us.
So that’s how we approach our small groups!
